Organizations

Organizations are how Surplus supports teams. On your own, you have a personal account tied to your wallet, and there is nothing to set up. When you want to work with other people, you create a team organization: a shared space with its own members, roles, workspaces, and wallets.

Personal accounts and team organizations

On your own you use a personal account, identified by your connected wallet. It holds your API keys, spend, and usage, and your wallet is its billing account. There are no members or roles to manage, and you can use Surplus fully without ever touching organizations.

A team organization is a separate, shared space you create to work with others. It has its own name, its own members and roles, its own workspaces, and its own wallets and billing, all kept completely separate from your personal account and from every other organization. The rest of this section is about team organizations.

Under the hood your personal account is represented as a personal organization so that team features can layer on cleanly, which is why the account switcher shows "Personal". As a solo user this is invisible: there is nothing to manage.

The active organization

Once you belong to a team, one organization is active at a time, and it scopes what the app shows you: the members, keys, usage, wallets, and settings you see all belong to it. Use the switcher at the top of the app to move between your personal account and your team organizations.

What a team organization holds

Members and roles define who has access and what they can do. See Roles and permissions and Members and invitations.
Workspaces are sub-spaces for separating keys, usage, and spend inside a team. See Workspaces.
Wallets and funding are the organization's balance, funding, and payouts. See Wallets and funding.
Analytics and observability show the organization's spend, requests, and audit trail. See Analytics and observability.

Creating a team organization

Open Settings, then Organization and choose New organization (the switcher has the same option). Give it a name and you become its owner. From there you can rename it, invite members, add workspaces, and provision wallets.

Renaming an organization requires the owner or an admin. Closing a team organization drains its balances and is a deliberate, owner-level action; it is not available in the app yet.
